STRATEGIC PLANNING SERVICES
A wise person
once said: "If you don't know
where you are going, how will you know how to get there?"
Planning, in its many forms is the answer to this question,
but there's more. If you don't know where you are going,
AND how to get there, how will you know WHEN you get there,
or when you have to alter your course, so you DO get there?
Answer: Planning. If you
fail to plan, you plan to fail!

What
Is The Most Common Reason Strategic Planning Fails?
One of the most common things I find when I go in
to assist organizations with planning is that they
have this belief that the plan that is created is
“stuck in concrete” meaning once they
developed it they didn’t think “the plan”
could be changed, altered or improved! That is just
one of many reasons strategic plans fail – so
what are the some other reasons I have seen over the
years of facilitating strategic planning.
|
Lack of implementation—no
game plans or actions plans with owners, due dates,
etc. |
|
Lack of monitoring the plan on at least a quarterly
basis |
|
Rushing the planning period and treating it
more like a “tasks” that needs to
be checked off! |
|
Not taking the time or balancing the amount
of time to review and collect meaningful data
on the external and internal situation. |
|
Organizational leaders need to understand that
there is a link between leadership and implementing
the strategic plan, and that without leadership
and leadership commitment to keep the plan on
everyone's radar, most of the value is lost. |
|
Lack of using a neutral experienced facilitator |
|
Not communicating the plan with key stakeholders |
|
Not involving other in the implementation of
the plan |
